At Children’s Autism Center, our preschool classroom focuses on implementing ABA interventions in an environment modeled after an early childhood classroom setting.

Our classroom facilitates generalization and maximizes incidental teaching opportunities in a least restrictive learning environment. While primary instruction is given by a Certified teacher, all learners continue to have a 1:1 therapist to further facilitate individual growth by utilizing prompting procedures and individualized behavior intervention plans. Learners in our preschool program come Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am to 12pm with most staying after for additional 1:1 ABA or Speech therapy from 12pm to 3pm.

Group Skills

Throughout the classroom day, learners practice essential prerequisite group skills that will support their experience in a less restrictive learning environment.  Learning to sit in a small group with peers while attending to an adult-led activity, transitioning between classroom activities with least intrusive prompting, participating in small group activities, responding to novel intraverbal questions presented by the classroom teacher, and learning to work independently are some of the targeted areas.

Behavioral Skills

Learners practice de-escalation strategies as they acquire social & emotional skills required to for coping and redirect their own behavior.  The classroom teacher prompts and reinforces responses to teach redirection in small and large group settings.  Learner’s practice using a “Calming Corner” similar to the physical spaces provided in many public-school classrooms.

Social Skills

Learners acquire several social skills as they work side by side with peers throughout the classroom day. The BCBA programs for various individual and group social goals both with adults and peers. Engaging in sustained social play, requesting and responding to the request of their peers, working on taking turns and building friendships based on their own unique interests are some of the targeted areas.
